Who we are · Independent editorial team

We test things ourselves, then tell you what we found

DetectAward is a small editorial team publishing hands-on reviews and practical guides across security, sport, education, travel, money and careers. No paid rankings, no rewritten press releases — just what we found when we tried it.

Our story

Why we do this the slow way

Most “best VPN” or “best academy” lists are built the fast way: skim a few competitors, rewrite the headlines, add an affiliate link. We do it the slow way — read the primary source, install the product or check this year's intake requirements ourselves, and only publish once someone on the team can stand behind the number.

That means we cover fewer topics than a site that rewrites press releases. We think it's the only way a ranking is worth reading.

“If we wouldn't recommend it to a friend, it doesn't get a badge.”

Method

Our approach, in five checks

Every guide, in every category, passes the same five checks before it earns a place on the site.

How we operate

The rules we hold ourselves to

  • Editorially independent

No provider, sponsor or affiliate partner sees a review before it publishes, and none can change a score.

  • A small, named team

Guides are written and checked by people with backgrounds in network security, education consulting and travel — not outsourced to anonymous content mills.

  • Affiliate links, disclosed

Some outbound links earn us a commission if you buy. We say so on every page that has one, and it never changes a score.

  • Corrections, fast

Found an error? It goes to the top of the queue. Most corrections are live within a few days.

Questions about us

A small editorial team with backgrounds in network security, education consulting and travel writes and checks every guide. We don't outsource to freelance content mills.

We start from what readers are actually trying to decide — which VPN works in a specific country, which academy is worth the fees, which visa route applies — and work backwards from there.

Mainly through affiliate commissions on some outbound links, disclosed wherever they appear. We don't accept payment for a ranking position or a review outcome.

Fast-moving topics such as VPNs and visas are re-verified monthly. Everything else is reviewed at least twice a year, or sooner if a reader flags a change.

Use the contact page. Corrections are prioritised and most go live within a few days.
